Please read below our answers to frequently asked questions. If you'd like to contact us directly, use our simple contact form.
How do I volunteer?
First, register for the Time Team by clicking "Sign Up" (at left). Then click on "Upcoming Events" and sign up for an event that interests you. It's that simple! New events are added regularly. What are you excited about? Children? Families? Animals? You will find a variety of events to channel your passion into advocacy, so check back often!
What does it cost?
It is free to help and nobody will ask you for money at any time.
Why are we doing this?
Mojo In The Morning realizes that if everybody gave just a little bit of time, we can make a huge difference together. We wanted to mobilize our vast audience to be the change.
Who is involved?
We are a network that is only as strong as the partnerships that support it. Mojo In The Morning has asked United Way for Southeastern Michigan to assist in coordinating our events. And none of us can build a community alone, so YOU are our most important partner!
How much time do I need to commit?
Just a few hours can impact your community. Whether it’s tutoring children, building a wheelchair ramp, or distributing hot meals to the homeless, we hope to offer a wide variety of options for you to jump on board. We will do all the groundwork, you just give us one morning or one afternoon.
Can I donate money?
Time Team Detroit was set up to coordinate volunteer efforts and does not accept cash donations. No one will ever ask for money at our events.
Can my business donate goods or services?
Please use the e-mail form on the "Contact Us" page to let us know what you have in mind. Perhaps your company can loan construction equipment or feed the volunteers. Or maybe you have 50 pair of work gloves to donate. Just arrange it in advance using our e-mail form.
Can I bring friends?
The more the merrier! But your friends and family must register individually so we can keep track of all volunteers. So please invite them to sign up on our website and volunteer for the same event.
Can I bring my kids?
As stated above, we love our spirit. Just be sure everyone is registered and signed up on their own, individually so we can keep track. Some events may not be safe for small children due to location or tools used. Volunteers should be at least 18 years old, although 15 to 17-year-old youth volunteers may come if accompanied by an adult.
Can I volunteer my entire office or church group?
Great! but as mentioned above, each volunteer must individually register and sign up for the event so we can keep track of our volunteers for each event.
How do I know if my event is postponed due to inclement weather?
You will receive an email/text message reminder 48 hours before an event for which you signed up. Last minute judgments will be made due to weather and you would receive a text/email update on the day of the event only if the event was canceled or postponed at the last minute.
How should I dress?
Volunteers should wear comfortable, casual clothes and closed-toed footwear such as sneakers (or boots). Some events may require
light physical activity - details will be given when you sign up. If you are working outside then you may get dirty, depending on the event. When getting dressed, think safety and comfort.
What should I bring?
When you sign up for a specific event, you will be told if there are any special items necessary such as work gloves. In most cases, we just need you!
Will you provide transportation?
No, all volunteers will be given directions to meet us at the event.
What do I do when I get there?
When you arrive at the job site, please introduce your group to a Volunteer Coordinator or member of the Mojo In The Morning Show. We will direct you to the sign-in location. All volunteers must sign a Waiver of Liability form in order to participate, to acknowledge - among other things - that no individual is getting paid for their time.
What if I can't stay the whole time? Can I come early or come late?
We ask you to only sign up for events that you can attend for the entire time required. This is necessary to estimate the proper number of people needed to get the job done.
I didn't sign up but I am free this morning, can I show up?
No, you must have signed up for this event in order to help us.
What if I signed up online for the wrong event, or I cannot attend the event I signed up for?
If you are unable to keep your commitment to participate, please contact us and let us know immediately so we can find another volunteer. And we'll see you next time!
How do I get Community Service Credit?
If you need a form signed for Community Service credit for high school or other program, be sure to have it signed by the Volunteer
Coordinator at the event. Note that some schools require special forms to be filled out. Remember to take any required forms with you to the volunteer event. we can not handle requests after the fact.
What if I need help, personally?
Time Team Detroit exists to coordinate volunteer efforts. If you need help, dial 2-1-1 on your phone. It's a free hotline that connects people with resources that improve their lives. The 2-1-1 call specialists are available 24 hours a day, 7 a days a week, and are ready to provide information about a wide range of community services – including health care, job training, child care, mortgage foreclosure assistance, food/shelter and more... provided by United Way.

Due to sheer volume, we will not be able to accommodate every request but will do our best to fulfill needs whenever possible. Together, we will make Southeastern Michigan a better place!
